You can use the 3D Spine Simulator to learn more about the spine and the associated nerves and organs, and to see how problems around your spine can be causing the symptoms you are experiencing.
There are 3 distinct phases of care that are provided in our Centennial, CO office. Understanding the progression of treatment within our office will help you to better understand how we may be able to help with your specific condition. Each phase provides separate and distinct benefits, and each takes a different time frame to accomplish, depending on your initial condition at the time treatment begins.
The 3 Phases of Care are:
1. Acute or Pain Relief Phase of Care- The majority of patients consult with our office because they have an ache or pain. In the first phase of care, the main goal is to eliminate or reduce your discomfort and stabilize your condition in the shortest amount of time. Treatment during this stage can consist of various forms of physical therapy, including heat therapy to increase circulation, ultrasound, electric stimulation, ice therapy to reduce swelling, soft tissue massage, acupuncture, and chiropractic adjustments of the spine to decrease muscle spasms and increase motion.
2. Corrective/Rehabilitative Phase of Care- Once your condition has stabilized, you enter the second phase of care, where the objective is to correct any underlying injury or cause of discomfort, strengthen the muscles, and improve neuromusculoskeletal function. Treatment during this phase continues to utilize physical therapy in an attempt to continue to keep the muscle spasms under control and to begin stretching and strengthening exercises. Chiropractic adjustments continue with the goals of increasing joint mobility and restoring normal alignment. It is important to remember that many of the conditions for which people seek care have developed over many years; therefore, correcting these problems is a true rehabilitative process. If you end your care before fully healing the muscles and soft tissue, you can invite a relapse.
3. Maintenance/Optimal Wellness Phase of Care- Upon entering this phase of care, you will have achieved normal joint alignment and motion. You will have also developed enough strength and flexibility that the risk of re-injury is low. This is the phase of treatment that is similar to getting the oil changed in your car. You continue this maintenance care not because any symptoms persist, but because you are actively working to prevent any symptoms from re-occurring. The goal of this stage is to help keep you at your optimal health.
Throughout these 3 phases of treatment, specific services and treatment recommendations will be provided. Descriptions of the services and specialties provided here at Heritage Health are listed below.
|
• CHIROPRACTIC CARE:
Chiropractic care emphasizes the ability of the body to heal itself through a hands-on, non-surgical, and drug-free approach. We look at the structure and function of the spine and nervous system, which transmits information to muscles, tissues, and organs. Doctors of chiropractic utilize a technique know as spinal manipulation, or spinal adjustment, to address areas of concern. |
|
• PHYSICAL THERAPY:
The physical therapy services offered at Heritage Health provide our patients with active treatment options to address your symptoms. Common treatments include stretching and strengthening exercises, core stabilization exercises, pain relieving modalities (heat, ice, ultrasound, electrical stimulation), and hands-on techniques. |
|
• ACUPUNCTURE:
Oriental Medicine, including acupuncture, Chinese herbs and diet/lifestyle modification is a system that has been used for thousands of years all over Asia and more recently in the United States. Acupuncture is the insertion of extremely fine sterile needles into specific points on the body to manipulate the flow of energy in the body called Qi (pronounced Chee). Qi flows through meridians as an invisible current, energizing, nourishing and supporting every cell, tissue, muscle, organ and gland. |
|
• SPINAL CURVE CORRECTION:
An important treatment component for many types of problems is spinal curve correction. There are normal curves that should be present in your spine. With many problems, there is either a decrease or exageration of these normal curves, which can lead to symptoms. |
|
• SPINAL REHABILITATION:
Many of our patients do exercises for their arms, legs, and stomach muscles. However, very few people know how to exercise their neck and back muscles the right way. When the neck and back muscles are neglected in this way, weakness can gradually develop, leading to pain and other symptoms. |
