Most people don’t! And who could blame you? Most needles that you have come in to contact with are huge! So large in fact, that you can fit 28 acupuncture needles into one regular needle from your doctor’s office! Can you believe that?! The acupuncture needle that we use here at Heritage Health is only 36 gauge. For those who are not familiar with gauges, that is about the size of a single, human hair!
The Good news…
The style of acupuncture that I utilize is practically pain free. You see, there are two main schools of thought when it comes to acupuncture style. There is the Traditional Chinese type and the Japanese style. Those who enjoy Traditional Chinese like to feel the needles. They like to feel them inserted in addition to when they are in. The Chinese believe that you should feel the treatment in order for it to be a good outcome. The more felt, the better!
The Japanese on the other hand enjoy a lighter needling. ? Most times you do not even know a needle was even inserted! They believe that it is not necessary to have a strong sensation for it to work. Although, I am trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine, I incorporate the ideology of the lighter needling method. I have found that patient results are equally sufficient, and that a pain free acupuncture session is preferable. I do have to admit though, that there is a stinger from time to time. It is inevitable. However, it is usually not what you expect. It is usually more of surprise or discomfort, instead of sheering, agonizing pain that our imaginations conjure up.
>Why not?
Here is the thing, acupuncture is a great therapy. But, if at the end of the day you just can’t get past that needle, it’s ok! Lucky for you Traditional Chinese Medicine offers more than just acupuncture. There is of course acupressure which is the same thing, just without needles. We also offer cupping, gua sha, tui na and custom herbal treatments. These treatments all have the same destination, just a different pathway to getting there. If you are unsure as to what these therapies are, please schedule a free consultation with me, Robbin Tallow-Ajilo, L.Ac. and I can answer all your questions. Or at your next appointment, just find me and ask your questions, I will be happy to answer them for you.
